Your keywords meta tag are not used by Google in web ranking

by Joao Moraes on September 23, 2009

Meta tags are a great for webmasters provide search engines with information about their sites. Meta tags can be used to provide information to all sorts of clients, and each system processes only the meta tags they understand and ignores the rest. Meta tags are added to the <head> section of your HTML page.

GoogleGoogleGoogle declared yesterday they do not use the meta keywords tag. Google has not used keywords for a long time. Why did Google blog about this?

  • Do  people continue to sue over it by claiming copyright infringement?
  • Do people confuse the meta keywords with the meta description?

If you are new to this subject see which meta tags Google does pay attention at Webmasters/Site owners Help.
